Founded in 1795, the Institut de France is a non-profit umbrella organization overseeing five Academies who strive to enhance the arts, sciences, and humanities.

As a patron, the Institut de France encourages research, supports creativity, and provides funding for many humanitarian projects in the form of prizes, bursaries, and grants. 

Placed under the protection of the President of the French Republic, the Institut de France maintains an extensive portfolio of architectural treasures and collections that have been bequeathed to the Institute beginning at the end of the 19th century.

A visit to the Palais of the Institut de France

 

Discover the Institut de France, easily recognizable by its elegant cupola overlooking the banks of the Seine.


It is under this cupola that the ceremonial sessions as well as the annual awards ceremony of the Institute are held. Stroll through the session rooms where daily academic work takes place and discover the remarkable collections of the Institut de France library and the Mazarin library.
